Unlock Your True Potential with Phases of Intensity
You won’t find rare results living an average lifestyle.
If you feel lost, tired, and unfocused, it’s time to flip the switch. Create a glitch in the matrix. Become a different person. Change your habits all at once—eliminate distractions, build your project, work 12 hours a day, and forget to eat. Look back after three months and realize you've done more than in the last three years.
Sometimes, success requires a season of intensity. I don’t believe consistency alone leads to success. It's a balance—a cycle of intensity, curiosity, consistency, and occasionally, feeling lost. Today, let’s explore how these cycles work and why they’re crucial to your progress.
The Power of Early Mornings (Or Late Nights)
Waking up at 4 a.m. can give you 3-4 hours of uninterrupted experience, a different reality, a quiet one. It's not for everyone, but doing something different can trigger breakthrough ideas. Whether waking early or staying up late, when the world is quiet, your mind has the space to create. Health considerations aside, these quiet moments are essential for channeling creativity into meaningful work.
Understanding Life Phases for Productivity
Before we dive deeper, know this: 12-hour workdays aren’t always feasible or worth it. You need to align with the right phase of life to enjoy working that long. And no, this isn’t about grinding nonstop. It's about knowing when to push and when to maintain. So let’s dive into the phases of progress: perplexity, curiosity, intensity, and consistency.
1. Perplexity – The "Feeling Lost" Phase
Most people dwell here, confused, not knowing what to do with their lives. The key to escaping this cycle? Allow yourself to be bored. Strip away distractions and sit with your thoughts. Boredom can spark the curiosity that leads to a more fulfilling path.
2. Curiosity – The Discovery Phase
Once you’ve escaped feeling lost, curiosity takes over. You identify a problem you want to solve. This is where shiny object syndrome is actually encouraged—try different things, see what sticks, and allow your mind to gather new insights. It’s okay to explore and experiment until something clicks.
3. Intensity – The All-In Phase
This is where everything aligns. You’re in flow, working 12 hours a day without effort because you’re driven by purpose. It’s a brief, explosive period of growth. But beware of burnout. The intensity phase is not sustainable forever—it’s designed to catapult you to a new baseline.
4. Consistency – The Maintenance Phase
Consistency doesn’t create progress; it maintains it. After reaching new heights, the goal is to stabilize. Keep doing what’s working, but don’t fall into stagnation. Use consistency to preserve your gains, but stay open to new opportunities for growth.
Why 12-Hour Focus Feels Impossible
If you can’t focus for long stretches, it’s because your environment and habits are working against you. Focus is about removing blockers—those things that distract you and drain your energy. Whether it’s clutter, lack of clarity, poor diet, or lack of purpose, you need to eliminate these obstacles to thrive.
Remove the Focus Blockers:
1. Purpose Blockers
Feeling lost stems from a lack of purpose. Clarify your goals. Without a clear aim, your focus will falter.
2. Environmental Blockers
You’re in control of your environment—clean it up. Surround yourself with inspiration, not distractions.
3. Metabolism Blockers
Food can either fuel you or drain you. Experiment with eating smaller meals and notice how it affects your focus.
4. Knowledge Blockers
Sometimes you simply don’t know enough to take action. Make learning a part of your daily routine to bridge those gaps.
Reprogram Your Mind
Everything starts with identity. If you want to love the process of achieving your dreams, you need to reprogram your mind. Immerse yourself in books, podcasts, and courses aligned with your goals. Your mind will start to reflect the information you consume.
Think Big, Act Small
In times of chaos, it’s up to you to create order. Write down what you don’t want in life, and what you aspire to achieve. Break down these dreams into smaller goals—daily, weekly, monthly steps that will lead you there.
Final Thoughts
Success comes from cycles of intensity followed by periods of maintenance and learning. Know which phase you’re in and what’s required to move forward. Use boredom to fuel curiosity, curiosity to fuel intensity, and intensity to create a new baseline. Iterate, improve, and always aim higher.
